Remington, VA (June 1, 2023) – American Legion, Remington, Harold J. Davis Post 247 is pleased to announce our local participation in the statewide Sweats for Virginia Vets campaign beginning June 1.

American Legion Post 247 is partnering with state coordinators, American Legion Post 1799, and the GFWC – Dominion Woman’s Club, to provide new sweat suit sets for military veterans at the three VA hospitals in Virginia. “This effort will provide much-needed clothing to facilitate the recovery and physical assistance to armed forces members who arrive at a VA hospital for medical care with only the clothes on their back,” said Dennis Corrigan, American Legion, District 16 Sweats for Virginia Vets coordinator.

Locally, American Legion Post 247 will collect donations from individuals, businesses, churches, schools, and nonprofits and then turn our donations in to state headquarters in early November.

How does the program work? – Locally, American Legion Post 247 will accept donations of new sweatsuit sets or monetary donations for sweatsuit sets through October 31. We ask that the sweat suit sets are wrapped in a single bow. At the end of our collection period, we will coordinate with American Legion Post 1799 and the GFWC – Dominion Woman’s Club to collect the suits for delivery to the VA hospitals in November.

“We’re excited to participate again this year,” said American Legion Post 247’s Sweats for Virginia Vets Coordinator, Chaplain Jay Pinsky. “Last year, our local Sweats for Virginia Vets campaign was overwhelmingly successful thanks to the enormous generosity of our community.”

For more information or to donate, please get in touch with American Legion Post 247 Chaplain Jay Pinsky at 540.229.9650 or by email [email protected].
