Alcoholic Beverage Policy

The American Legion Post 247 rental hall is considered an “Unlicensed Club” by the Virginia ABC Authority. Therefore, In order to have alcohol present at any event, whether provided by the event host, or brought into the hall by guests,  the Renting Party must provide the Post 247 Representative with

•  a copy of a valid Virginia ABC Banquet License ($40 for a one day banquet license)

Additionally, to manage the liability associated with renting the hall for event where alcohol is present, Post 247 requires the Renting Party to provide

• a certificate of Special Event Liability Insurance (with alcohol) in the amount of $1,000,000.

Depending on the risk level of the event (solely as determined by Post 247 Rental Coordinator), the Renting Party may also be recommended, or required,  to coordinate with and pay the Fauquier County Sheriff to have one deputy present for the duration of the party (excluding setup and cleanup) at any event where alcohol is served. 

The Post 247 Rental Coordinator will request event specifics from the Renting Party to determine the relative risk level of each event. The lack of a recommendation from Post 247 to hire law enforcement does not prevent the Renting Party from hiring Fauquier County Sheriff’s deputies to monitor the event.

2. Virginia ABC Banquet Licenses may be procured in person at a Regional ABC office 10 calendar days before the event. Rules and forms may be found at: https://www.abc.virginia.gov/licenses/get-a-license.
3. Event liability insurance may help cover expenses if you are found responsible for property damage or an injury caused during your celebration.Event insurance is offered by many insurance companies, easily identified through a web search for “Special Event liability insurance in Fauquier County Va”. One such provider, is MARKEL insurance, available online.
